are there truly unique items in guild wars?
I guess what I'm saying, are there items that will set you apart from others? Like in Diablo II, where you had sets and socketed items, and uniques. When you get to level 20 can't you just get any item you want if you build a pvp character? Doesn't that render the economy meaningless? I'm new and I don't know how this works in Guild wars. Opinions, appreciated in advance,
cheers |

put with simplicity: PvP items are usable only in PvP. Because PvP needs that kind of thing. Thus, ecomony is untouched.
in PvE you pretty much hunt stuff like you would in Diablo. Its uncomparable to DII thou (DII is item grinder, GW is not). But you can set yourself apart with rare skinned weapons and expensive armorsets. Just dont expect them to improve your character stats over non rare stuff (because, again GW is not item grinder) Other than that, there are rare items that are rare because they are discontinued (dual absorbtion shields or unconditional weapons, noninscribable 15^50 crystalines) and are trully unique. Bluntly put, GWs Enigma Armor is Obsidiam armor, but unlike enigma which provides great stats, Obsidian will provide stats that any max armor will |

The unfortunate, and quick response is... no... not really.
The longer explinations: As far as weapons are concerned; with inscriptions and salvagable parts, you can turn virtually any weapon into any "unique". There are even guides on Guildwiki.org that show you how to make almost any unique weapon out of a normal one (minus the green letters), provided you get the proper "skin". This doesn't really matter that much, because the only place others would see your "unique" weapon is outside battling or in a trade window. As far as armor is concerned; they don't have any truly unique armor either. Obsidian armor (considered by many to be the elite armor), or any other armor type is available to anyone with the money and crafting materials. The runes and insignias make things "unique" to you, but, then again, no one sees those. On armor, it is the combinations of different types of armor and the dyes you use on them that make them truly "unique". As far as PvP weapons are concerned, if you've unlocked the "skin" and upgrades in PvE by using an ID kit on drops you collect, you have access to those in PvP; and can create virtually any weapon. So basically, (and unfortunately) there are no truly "unique" items in GW. Great post though... made me really evaluate some things that were "obvious" to me... lol Edit: Added comments on PvP weapon Last edited by The Shadow; Jun 15, 2007 at 06:03 PM // 18:03.. |

No item is truly "unique", as someone else could have the exact same item.

I agree with quickmonty. An item/weapon is only "unique" if it is the only one that exists. Unique can also mean special or set apart, but there isn't a whole lot of that either.
It's probably been suggested before, but I kinda wish there were weapons you could grind for and have crafted (like is needed to get FOW armor). |

There are some 15% always items with no downside.
